Alberta Good Sam RV Club coming to Viking for 2020 jamboree

Get ready for an invasion of the Good Sam RV Club in June of 2020 as plans are underway to hold their annual jamboree in Viking.

The arrival of about 200 recreational vehicles and 400 people is expected to happen over a five day duration from June 17-20 in just over a year’s time.

The Good Sams host their own activities and travel every year to a different small town in Alberta where they stay in their mostly self-contained RV units.

Town CAO Don McLeod noted their stay will take place in conjunction with the Cloverlodge Stampede that year. Good Sam representatives Bob and Kathy Harrison came to Viking April 12 and were treated to a tour of the town and its facilities.

“They were very impressed with Viking and all we had to offer,” said Town of Viking Recreation Director Doug Lefsrud.

“I showed them the Carena facility, the green spaces north and west of the Carena, and asked them to consider these locations as their RV staging area”
The tour also included a “general community drive which gave us an opportunity to discuss different activities they have during their stay,” he said.

Lefsrud also said the Good Sams were interested in using the Carena ice surface for an evening banquet with about 400 attending.
