Viking offering high speed Internet to residents

The Town of Viking is offering high speed internet service to local residents and businesses after Viking Council passed a motion June 3 to enter into an agreement with Nutec Electro Tel from Camrose.

CAO Don McLeod stated he expected “the rollout” of the partnership service would be July 1. Nutec offers technical support to the town and has provided high speed internet to a limited number of people in Camrose.

McLeod said the serving equipment for the service will be mounted on the Providence Grain elevator.

“This is the highest point in town,” he said, calling it a “line of sight” accessibility: “From there, if you can see that elevator you can use this.” That includes farms and acreages around Viking.

With a 36-month contract, the installation fee using Nutec technicians would be $99, and people can choose from basic, advanced, or ultimate Internet service packages. Data usage would range from 250 to 750 GB with overage charges. Billing would be done through the town utility bills issued every two months.

“It’s just another service we’re offering to citizens and surrounding residents of the area,” he said.
