On Sunday, July 16 a group of former Irma district students gathered at the Extendicare to honour the Irma district’s two oldest-living school teachers, Irene Fluevog, who recently turned 105, and Solveig Raasok.

19th annual Graveldome Bullarama hits Kinsella

The 19th annual Kinsella Graveldome Bullarama took place on Wednesday, July 12. Thirty P.B.R. bull riders took on 30 top Canadian bulls, including some local stock from Skori Bucking Bulls. The warm weather and clear skies brought many fans out to fill the stands around the arena.

All 30 riders took on their first bull in the first round, attempting to earn a score that would qualify them for the top-ten.

Mounted Ride Program promotes RCMP in Alberta, says Viking Constable

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are well known for their Musical Ride program which travels across Canada attending and performing at events.

According to the RCMP website, “The Musical Ride provides the opportunity to experience the heritage and traditions of the RCMP. The riders act as ambassadors of goodwill who promote the RCMP’s image throughout Canada and all over the world.”

Kinsella research aims to improve feed efficiency, carcass quality

Megan Russnak, daughter of Gwen and Greg Russnak, has been spending her summer taking part in a research project geared towards improving feed efficiency and carcass quality in cattle, under the direction of Dr. Carolyn Fitzsimmons with the University of Alberta (U of A).

Russnak says, “The study uses genomics to assist with selection and improvement of these characteristics in the cattle. We are using purebred Angus and Charolais cattle and a crossbreed herd at Kinsella.
