New Town of Viking Rec Director will focus on Carena
The Town of Viking has hired a new Recreation Director. Doug Lefsrud, a lifelong resident of Viking, started in the position on September 1.
Lefsrud moved to Viking as a kid in the 70s, but said he has always called Viking home. He said he and his wife both graduated high school in Viking and have lived in the community ever since.

Viking’s Jeanette Andrashewski has been on three trips to Toronto, participated in cooking workshops with world class chefs, been interviewed by food bloggers, and spoken to bus-loads of people about canola farming, and it all happened by chance.
Andrashewski said she was just accompanying her husband Dwayne to the Farm Tech show in Edmonton this January when she happened to start talking to someone involved in the Alberta Canola Producers Commission (ACPC). This person suggested she stop by the ACPC booth and speak with Simone Demers Collins, Market Development and Promotions Coordinator for ACPC, as the organization was looking for someone like her.

The trip of a lifetime for Linda Haugan of Holden started with a trip to the gas station and ended with a breathtaking view of the closing ceremonies of the Olympic games in Rio.
Haugan stopped at a Petro-Canada cardlock station months ago, and noticed a sign stating you could win a trip to the Olympics just by sending in a text. So each time she stopped at the station, she texted in an entry to the contest.

Irma Tigers take AA-Major championship in Illinois
The Irma Tigers Men’s Fastball Team earned the North American Fastpitch Association (NAFA) World Series win for the second year in a row.
“They won it last year, and they won it in AA,” said Assistant Coach Lorne Firkus.
He noted that once a title has been won, the team must progress to the next division in the tournament, meaning that the team was ineligible to compete at the AA level.
