Viking RCMP Report: Intoxicated CN passenger removed
On February 24, police received a 911 hang-up. Police called the number and a busy signal was received. Further checks were completed and police located another number, a call was made to this number and the subject was spoken to. It was learned it was a land line that somehow contacted 911.
That afternoon, a citizen attended the detachment to report a motor vehicle collision. He reported that while approaching a stop sign on Highway 36 the trailer he was pulling jack-knifed and damaged his vehicle. Due to the extremely icy conditions the trailer slid and jack-knifed into the truck. There were no injuries, a collision report was completed and the driver was provided with a file number and damage sticker.
That evening, police received a complaint of uttering threats. The complainant advised he was receiving text messages that he felt were threatening. Police attended the complainant’s residence and observed the texts which were determined to be over gender-based decisions. All parties were spoken to regarding the situation. The threats were determined not to be criminal in matter.
On February 25, police learned a male from Viking failed to attend court in Vegreville on several charges. A warrant was issued for his arrest. An additional charge for failing to attend court has been issued. The warrants will be executed when the person in question is located.
That evening, police assisted CN Rail police with the removal of a passenger who was intoxicated and causing a disturbance which was delaying the train. The train stopped in Viking and a heavily intoxicated 33-year-old male was removed from the train. The subject was held in custody until he was sober. He was charged under the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act for public intoxication.
On February 26, CN Rail advised of a malfunctioning railway crossing on Range Road 130. CN advised a technician was dispatched to fix the crossing. Members made a patrol later in the day and the crossing appeared to be functioning properly.
On February 27, police received a call for assistance from the addiction and mental health facility. They requested a check be conducted on a female who was experiencing mental health issues. Police spoke with the female who refused any assistance from the police. Police made a referral to the Regional Police and Crisis Team (RPACT) for follow up with the individual. Later that afternoon the RPACT team attended the female’s residence and found the subject to be incoherent. EMS was requested to assist with the transportation of the female to a hospital for further assessment.
That evening, police received a complaint of a vehicle parked on the shoulder of Highway 14 west of Viking. The complainant advised the vehicle was dark in colour and did not have any warning lights on it. Police made a patrol to the location and the vehicle was gone.
That same evening, police received a complaint of a semi truck that was on Highway 14 near Kinsella on the CN overpass. The complainant advised the rear wheels were partially in the eastbound lane of traffic and was parked there most of the day with only a few pylon markers to alert traffic. When members arrived at the location the company was in the process of removing the truck.
On February 28, police received a traffic complaint. The complainant advised a black Nissan SUV was driving erratically on Highway 14. The vehicle cut off a transport truck and was passing on double solid lines. Patrols were made on Highway 14 and the vehicle in question was not located.
That same morning, police received a complaint of an assault that occurred earlier in February. The complainant advised that her common-law husband had physically assaulted her. The victim provided police with a statement regarding the assault. Police arrested a 39-year-old male who is facing charges of assault causing bodily harm and several firearms offences. The male was released by the Justice of the Peace on several conditions and is scheduled to appear in the Court of Justice in Vegreville at a later date.
Later that morning, a citizen attended the detachment to report a dog that was not leashed or fenced. He reported that while taking his own dog for a walk another dog came out of a yard and aggressively approached him. He was given direction to advise the Town of Viking of the situation and to avoid the area.
That evening, policer received a complaint of a suspicious black Dodge Ram with three occupants driving around Kinsella. Members patrolled the area and were unable to locate the vehicle.
