GoFundMe set up for family after devastating accident last week in Killam
On Friday, March 28, Killam RCMP closed down the intersection of Highway 36 and 13 after a serious accident claimed the life of a child.
RCMP reported a nine-year-old female was pronounced deceased at the scene. Four others from the same vehicle were transported to hospital, including a 13-year-old male, a nine-year-old female, and a 43-year-old male all in critical condition. An 11-year-old male is in stable condition.
The occupants of the second vehicle, a 72-year-old male and a 72-year-old female, sustained minor injuries.
Prolonged, heavy snow made road conditions and visibility poor across the province, resulting in a STARS air ambulance being unable to attend the scene.
As a result of the tragedy, a Go-Fund Me fundraiser was started locally for the Field family. As of Tuesday, April 1, the amount raised was over $75,000 and growing quickly. By Thursday, April 3 the amount had grown to $88,840.
“The Fields were involved in a traffic accident and have lost their daughter Emma and have 2 other children injured in hospital. We want to help them with the difficult months ahead.”
In an update from Wednesday, April 2, fund organizer Evelyn Ferrier posted: “Thank you everyone for your donations and prayers for the family. Lincoln has been released from hospital, Jason is awaiting surgery but is stable, and Jake and Maddie are still in the nicu, sedated and intubated. The family is feeling God’s presence in the love from the community. Please keep the prayers and well wishes coming, they are so appreciated.
Also accepting donations for the family is the Flagstaff Players.
A couple of the children and their mom were performers in the Flagstaff Players’ production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
In response to the accident, the Players cancelled both weekend performances, offering refunds to all who had already purchased tickets.
Killam restaurant ‘The Hitchin’ Post’ has announced they will donate $1 from the sale of each burger sold in April to the Field GoFund Me account as well.
