From the Archives (1951): The King and His Court Display Excellent Talent

Originally published July 4, 1951 – The King and His Court, the four man softball team from Walla Walla, Washington, and parts of Oregon, showed a lot of class when they played an exhibition game here with a team pick from Viking, Aplomb, and Kinsella, last Friday evening.

King Ed Feigner proved why he is one of the best drawing cards in softball by pitching his team to an easy victory over the local combination by a score that we forgot to jot down. However, the local team enjoyed the game along with the hundreds of fans that attended from many points around.

Feigner unloosed a wide variety of pitches at the bewildered batters. The Court also provided they could hit as well and sent the ball to all corners of the field. Feigner also amazed the crowd with his blindfold pitching.

Following the game, the Court gave an entertaining demonstration of “shadow ball” and Feigner wound up the show with a pitching demonstration. He also exhibited most of his styles and tricks. It was amazing how he pitched strikes from second base and even from the centre field.

The Viking Legion Branch and the Senior Hockey Club wish to express their appreciation to the many fans who turned out to see the game, and also to the local players who made up the opposition. The King and His Court stated that this was one of the most friendly and hospitable places they had visited and expressed a wish to be back again next year.
