Almost $1,000 raised at Terry Fox event

The 40th Anniversary of the Terry Fox ‘Marathon of Hope’ was not marked in the usual way this year due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the Viking School, this year’s fundraising took a different turn instead of the run/walk outside with the community invited to participate.

Instead, the school dedicated September 28 to October 2 to conduct activities in cohort fashion.

Vice-Principal Kelly Arial said that many classes took the “40 Challenge,” which she described as “trying to do 40 of something to keep the spirit going.

“There was everything from running and jumping jacks to mini-golf targets and word puzzles,” she said.

“Together we had incredible human spirit and compassion that continues to drive Terry’s dream of a world without cancer.”

This year, almost $1,000 was raised doing these activities for the cause that raises money for research and to help the families whose lives have been touched by the disease.
