German tourist biking across Canada stops into Viking
A German tourist cycling across Canada stopped in for lunch at the Station House Tea Room in Viking and got more attention than he probably anticipated.
But Marcel Weigel, 30, says he has been meeting many people as he travels along the country’s highways and byways, and many have shown him kindness and courtesy along the way.
His experience began when he bought a touring bike in Frankfurt, Germany. Then the software engineer flew to Anchorage, Alaska, on June 11 where he investigated parts of Alaska before heading south into British Columbia.
By July 14, he made it as far as Muncho Lake on the Alaska Highway, which is in northern BC. Incredibly, he camped overnight in the same general area, and on the same evening, that a couple was murdered – a murder that has made international headlines.
