New officer joins RCMP detachment
The Viking RCMP have a new officer who joined the detachment just last week.
Cst. Chris Purvis has finally realized a long held dream to join the force and, at 37, is now making it a reality.
“I’m excited to be here,” he said, during an interview Monday morning. “I’m excited to be on the job. It’s a dream that’s been a long time in the works.”
There are usually four positions at this posting, including Cpl. Brad Mouland (Commanding Officer), Cst. Tourand, Cst. Kathy Hanson, and another officer on administrative leave. Purvis is replacing Hanson, who will be leaving at the end of the month to step into the limelight as a member of the RCMP Musical Ride.
Purvis came to Viking with his young family, which includes wife Julie and their three boys, ages 7, 4, and 1. “They’re a lot of fun,” he said, of the boys, the oldest of which is home schooled.
