Cemetery burial plots spike from $25 to $500 – move meant to bring cost in line with other towns in the area
Burial plots in the Viking Municipal Cemetery have have been raised in price after a long period of much cheaper costs.
At Viking Council’s Jan. 21 meeting, council passed the Master Rates Bylaw which includes all the rates, fees and charges for goods and services provided by the Town of Viking.
But according to McLeod, that’s where the comparison ends. Other towns do not charge $25 per cemetery plot as the Town of Viking still has for many years without a change.
So the town has raised the going price from $25 to $500 per burial plot, plus GST.
McLeod said this serves to bring Viking in line with neighbouring towns such as Tofield, which charges $600, Killam ($500) and Daysland ($500).
