Board conducts hearing on annexation bid by Town of Viking
A public hearing into the annexation of Beaver County land by theTown of Viking was conducted by the Alberta Municipal Government Board (MGB) on Friday, Sept. 15 in Viking.
The town proposes to annex about 20.1 hectares (49.6 acres) on its northwest boundary to allow for commercial and light industrial growth over the next 20 years. Land for residential growth is considered adequate for that same period of time.
The town is attempting to increase its property tax base through “appropriately located commercial development” to secure future sustainability, states a Town of Viking report submitted to the hearing.
