IRMA STUDENTS OBTAIN AED AND CPR TRAINING
One hundred Irma students, Grades 5 to 12 took part in training on how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and were also taught cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Under a partnership between the Heart and Stroke Foundation and Enbridge, 29 Alberta schools will be outfitted with 33 AEDs and thousands of students will be trained in their use.
The program is made possible thanks to a $350,000 sponsorship from Enbridge which was announced last May and now that the new school year has begun, the training sessions are taking place across Alberta.
Former boxing champion and cardiac arrest survivor, Scotty “the Bulldog” Olson shared his experience with the students, staff and guests.
Scotty explained that in January of this year, he suffered a heart attack which resulted in him being put in a medically induced coma following surgery where two stents were placed in his heart…. for more see the Sept. 22/15 Weekly Review
