FORMER VIKING RESIDENT CONTINUES TO RIDE HIGH
There was a story in a recent edition of the Edmonton Senior which told of a group of 80 plus gentlemen who meet three times a week to play hockey.
While the story, written by Alberta J. Fernando, is very interesting and tells of the team of retirees who put aside their aches and pains and play hockey just for the love of the game, what the story didn’t say was that one of those hockey players was a former Viking resident.
And there is more.
Not only was George Myren raised in Viking, but he and his partner Joyce Smith and Alfie Myhre will be at the Bruce Stampede Volunteer Appreciation Night on Saturday, Feb. 28. George says they were invited to attend the event and may bring a fiddle and guitar to the event, “just in case the need arises.”
And yes, Joyce Smith is the same Joyce Smith who recorded “Leavin’ On Your Mind.” And that’s a story in itself… for more see the Feb. 24/15 Weekly Review
