WWII veteran receives government medal
Doris Davies said she was pleased and honoured to recently receive a medal and certificate signed by Leon Benoit, MP — Vegreville – Wainwright on behalf of the Canadian government thanking her for her military service.
The certificate accompanying the medal says:
“As your Member of Parliament I am honoured to extend my appreciation and gratitude for your service during the Second World War. Thank you for serving Canada and our allies to preserve our values and our freedom. We pledge to always remember and honour your service. Sincerely Leon Benoit. M.P.”
At the age of 22 Doris Davies, then Doris Jolicoeur, left her career as a supervisor with the Palmer Corporation and signed up with the Canadian Navy in London, Ontario.
