CONVOLUTED RATING SYSTEM AFFECTS VIKING MEDICAL CENTRE
A series of articles in the Edmonton Journal dealing with the condition of Alberta’s hospitals has caused quite a stir among Viking and area residents.
On Dec. 3 the front page of the Edmonton Journal carried a picture of the Viking Medical Centre covered by a banner which said POOR.
A number of residents stopped by the Weekly Review news office to voice their concerns saying that such a label reflects negatively on the community.
However, anyone who read the entire series written by Edmonton Journal health reporter, Keith Gerein, understands that the Viking Medical Centre was just one among many health facilities which has fallen victim to what appears to be a convoluted and mind-boggling hospital rating system.
The rating system, as Gerein’s articles explain, deals only with the physical condition of the medical facilities and is not rating the services provided.
