VIKING’S MAYOR ZAYONCE SPEAKS TO FIRST YEAR
Just over a year ago on Oct.21, 2013, Viking residents went to the polls to elect a four-year term town council.
When the votes were all counted, Mayor David Zayonce garnered 211 votes, just 13 more than former Mayor Marlene Grandinetti who captured 198. The third contestant and also a former Mayor, Cindy Lefsrud received 91 votes.
Judy Acres was the only incumbent councillor maintaining a seat with 295 votes. Travis Hartl and Rod Hunter both won 278 votes while Ellen Lefsrud won a seat on council with 230 votes. Councillors Jason Ritchie had 344 votes and Laurel Weisgerber won with 378 votes.
Speaking on behalf of the one-year council, Mayor Zayonce re-capped the events of the past year and spoke about plans for the remainder of the term which will draw to a close in October of 2017.
