NOISE BYLAW MAY SILENCE TRAIN WHISTLE

    A current Viking noise bylaw may hold the key to silencing train whistles without any cost to the town, according to Councillor Rod Hunter.

    At the regular meeting of council on Monday, Aug. 18, Hunter suggested using the bylaw as the basis to bring an end to trains sounding their horns during the night hours. He said according to his understanding, CN may currently be contravening Viking’s Noise Bylaw. Hunter said he will take more time to research the bylaw.

    Council agreed with the letter-writing suggestion and approved that letters be sent to CN Rail as well as to the office of Leon Benoit, MP for Vegreville – Wainwright, seeking his assistance in the matter.
