Child singing star makes in to second ballot for country “song of the year”
Former local Luanne Carl, daughter of Stan and Doris Marko, has certainly come a long way as a musician since her first performance singing Lavender Blue at the Community Hall in Viking at eight years old.
Carl recently found out that she and co-writer/band mate Kent Nixon have made the second ballot for the Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMA), for Songwriter of the Year for their song 2:15.
According to Carl, making the second ballot means that she and Nixon were nominated by industry peers for their song, and currently the voting is happening for the third and final ballot, to see who will be named winner in August.
“Having made the second ballot for the CCMA awards for Songwriter of the Year means so much to me. I have been writing songs for years, and earning a CCMA award has been a lifelong dream. I am very excited,” she said.
