Word on the Street: Viking RCMP report text identity fraud

On Feb. 11, police received a complaint of a possible case of identity fraud where an unknown subject was sending threatening text messages and claiming to be the complainant. 

    When speaking with the complainant, it was determined she had received this information from a third party and the alleged victim of the threats had never officially reported to police.       The complainant just wanted it noted that she was not sending the threatening  text messages.

    That same day, police received a complaint from a financial institution regarding an ongoing fraud where a subject was illegally withdrawing cash from ATMs in various locations without having sufficient funds in his local account.  The investigation into this matter is continuing.

    On Feb. 13, police responded to a two- vehicle collision south of Viking on Highway 36.          A pickup was attempting to turn onto Township Road 474 when it lost control on the icy road and began to slide on the highway and was struck by a car that was unable to come to a stop and avoid the collision. 

    Fortunately neither drivers suffered any major injuries however the driver of the truck was taken to the Viking Health Center as a precautionary measure.
