Council considers dropping 2 seats

Viking Town Council addressed a number of agenda items including the consideration of dropping two council positions from six to four plus the mayor’s position.

Mayor Grandinetti said to council that has been the trend with some villages and towns in the area, which could have a projected savings of approximately $18,000 annually.

If council decides to move to a council consisting of only five members, the decision must be made 180 days prior to election.

Council members were concerned that the number of committees each councillor needs to cover may increase if the reduction of council seats is approved. Council was asked to review the proposal and report back to the next council meeting.
