Weekly Review turns 100 this year!
This year, 2013, the Viking Weekly Review celebrates its hundredth birthday.
Volume 1, Number 1 of the Viking News was published Thursday, May 15, 1903 and, although the name was changed in 1979 when the publishing rights of the Viking News were bought by The Weekly Review in 1979, the newspaper has served the community for the past 10 decades.
In January of 1983, The Weekly Review purchased the Thor Agencies building (the old bakery).
The Weekly Review was printed at Sedgewick from its birth until the fall of 1982 when the printing was moved to Wainwright for about a month. It was then moved to Fort Saskat-chewan for about two years until it was subsequently printed at the office of the Camrose Canadian.
In November of 1993, The Weekly Review was purchased by Kerry Anderson and Rick Truss. Since then, a new computer system and new office equipment have been introduced to the business.
The Weekly Review has some special plans ahead to help celebrate its century of providing news coverage in the Viking area.
