There will be an increase in this year’s municipal taxes.

On Monday, June 18 council heard that the 2012 Town of Viking Mill Rate budget is balanced and property owners will see an increase.
Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Rod Krips told council that the budget was updated and amended to reflect known changes from the approved 2012 operating budget and that a new mill rate has been set.

A total of $63, 089 will be raised under the new mill rate, $40,710 in residential taxes and $22,379 in non-residential taxes.

CAO Krips explained that the increase in municipal taxes is the result of two impacts, namely, property assessment growth of $21,558 and a tax rate increase of $41, 530.
