Rural Sustainability Contract is Extended
After its beginning in May, 2010, Brian Roz-mahel’s contract as Rural Sustainability Develop-ment Officer for the Town of Viking was slated to end this past April 30.
However, this has been extended to the end of September so that the $436,000 federal grant may be wrapped by further promoting the conservation village project.
Rozmahel says, “The parameters of the grant meant that it could not be used for any capital expenses. It was intended to explore sustainable projects and promote Viking as a rural sustainability demonstration town. The idea was to counter declining populations and explore ways to keep institutions in small towns operating.”
With these goals in mind, laying the groundwork for the conservation village is just one of many ways the grant has been utilized since he first received it in 2010.
