Strychnine approved for gopher control
Member of Parliament for Vegreville-Wainwright Leon Benoit announced last week that Health Canada has returned permanent registration status to two per cent Liquid Stry-chnine Concentrate (LSC) as an acceptable method to control the gopher population, effective immediately.
“As farmers are well aware, even though two per cent liquid strychnine is the most effective, cost-efficient, method to control the gopher population it was arbitrarily banned in the early 90s,” explains Benoit.
“As a result, gophers were causing millions of dollars of damage to crops, equipment and livestock every year.”
