Winnipeg Firefighter recalls deadly fire
Winnipeg firefighter Lionel Crowther captivated his audience last week at the Viking Community Centre as he spoke about his involvement in a deadly Winnipeg house fire in February of 2007.
Crowther walked the audience through the events of the evening five years ago which saw fire crews respond to a seemingly routine fire call in St. Boniface. The fire would claim the lives of captains Thomas Nichols and Harold Lessard and send four firefighters to hospital before the evening concluded.
Word on the Street Submitted by Viking RCMP: Suspicious male near playground
On Feb. 28 police re-ceived a call regarding a suspicious male parked near the playground at the Viking School.
Viking Not Hosting
For the first time in six years, Viking will not play host to any Hockey Alberta Provincial Tournaments, which is a big change as the community has hosted seven in the previous five years.
Strychnine approved for gopher control
Member of Parliament for Vegreville-Wainwright Leon Benoit announced last week that Health Canada has returned permanent registration status to two per cent Liquid Stry-chnine Concentrate (LSC) as an acceptable method to control the gopher population, effective immediately.
