Chief Administrative Officer Rod Krips will look into the cost of placing cement barriers in front of the sewer lift station to prevent a reoccurrence of the accident which caused almost $100,000 damage to the structure in the spring of 2010.
The request to look into constructing concrete protection pillars came from Councillor Gabe Brissard who told council that he felt without protection, a similar incident may occur. Brissard said he did not feel a chain link fence offered any type of protection to the building.
The request came after CAO Krips advised council that a cheque in the amount of $91,326.25 had been received from MUNIX, a Reciprocal Insurance Exchange, for the damages which resulted from an accident involving a vehicle in late May, 2010. CAO Krips told council that while the first party claims payments are fully recovered, there is still the issue of recovery of claim amounts of the liable party and their insurers. He said Claimspro will continue to try and recover the legally reasonable amounts that were paid out by the Town of Viking’s insurers.
“It is possible Claimspro may need the Town of Viking’s cooperation in these matters and Claimspro would initiate contact in such an instance,” he said.
CAO Krips said there is nothing further the Town of Viking needs to do unless otherwise advised.
CAO Krips will contact other councils to discuss if a planned joint council meeting will go ahead despite the lack of any agenda items. Councillor Roy Ellingson asked that the joint council meeting set for Nov. 29 not be cancelled even if there is are no specific agenda items requiring attention. CAO Krips said the CAOs do not have any agenda items and therefore were questioning the need for the meeting.
Councillor Ken Ruzicka said he thought the idea of the joint council was more of a social evening, an opportunity for councils to spend time exchanging concerns and ideas.
Ellingson said the meeting of area councils is very important to continue the good relationship local councils currently enjoy.
