Local trainer enjoys 1-2 Canadian Derby win

A former Viking High School student didn’t have to pick which horse to cheer for at the Canadian Derby last Thursday because, to her amazement and delight, the two she trained came in first and second.

            
Not only did the horses trained by Joan Petrowski capture the top spots, the win made her  the only female trainer to win the Canadian Derby twice. She also won with Footprint in 2007.

She becomes the only female trainer to win the Canadian Derby twice.
