Viking celebrates Stanley Cup with Grandma Grace Sutter

Grace Sutter, the mother of NHL hockey in Viking

Grace Sutter can’t hide her pride and a smile is never far away as she talks about the final minutes of game six which saw her son Darryl coach the Los Angeles Kings to the Stanley Cup just over a week ago.

Darryl is one of seven Sutter brothers, six of whom played in the National Hockey League in the 1970s and 1980s. Brent, Brian, Darryl, Duane, Rich and Ron all enjoyed successful hockey careers  and Brian, Duane, Darryl and Brent have all gone on to positions of coaches and general mangers.

Gary, said to be the best hockey player of all the boys, chose not to make his living in hockey.

Grace said she watched Monday’s final game on the farm and was thrilled with the result.
