Open house hopes to encourage new members

Viking Fire and Rescue will be hosting an open house on Saturday, May 26 between the hours of 1 and 5 p.m. as a way of increasing public awareness and bringing the community together.

Organizers hope the event may encourage community members’ interest in joining the volunteer department.

Currently, their numbers are down to 15 and they hope to do what they can to raise them.

This is important, as they are responsible for covering fires from Viking to Range Road 170 as well as north, south, and east to the county lines, and the eastern half of the county for extrication situations, which is a large job best done by more people.
