During the early morning hours on April 23,  police, along with EMS and the Viking Fire Department,  were dispatched to a single vehicle collision on Highway 36 north of Viking.

The driver of a  northbound vehicle advised he reached down to pick up his cell phone that had fallen on the floor of his pickup, temporarily taking his eyes off the road.

As he did this, the vehicle veered into the oncoming lane and then entered the west ditch, went over an embankment, through a fence and came to rest amongst a stand of trees. Fortunately, the driver only sustained minor injuries and was taken to the Viking Health Center for treatment.  Charges are pending.

That evening, a parent contacted police to advise she had located a camera in her son’s room that did not belong to him.  Police spoke with the youth who admitted to stealing it the previous week.  This matter is still under investigation.
