Perpetual and the predecessor Paramount Energy Trust  have had a field office  in Viking since it obtained the company from Dominion in 2007.

Sue Riddell Rose – President and Chief Executive Officer of   Perpetual Energy spoke with the Weekly Review from the company’s Calgary offices and  said the decision to close the Viking office was reached when gas prices fell to record lows.

When asked if the unseasonably warm winter had any bearing on the company’s decision, Riddell Rose said the warm winter did play a part. She said mild weather blanketed the country, lowing the demand and resulting in a glut in gas storage amounts.

She said she has never seen gas prices at this level and said she sees the next 12 months as “ a very challenging” time.
