“Visit Viking” train car visits Viking

train-visit-vikingA train car with the words “Take an Alberta Break, Visit Viking” could be seen parked across from Highway 619 last week. The train car, which is one in a series of hundreds displaying the names of Alberta towns, was painted in 1991 by the Alberta government as a tourism campaign. According to the Western Producer archives, at the time they were painted Philip Mulder of the provincial public works department said “It’s like a great rolling billboard for Alberta.” The train cars have been spotted all over Canada and the U.S. with the “Visit Viking” car being photographed as far away as Illinois. Thanks to Dale Mizera for letting The Weekly Review know that the train car was stopped in town.
