Word on the Street: Viking RCMP report Grandparent phone scam

On Nov. 1, police were advised of an attempted fraud using the “Grandparent” scam.

The complainant received a phone call from an unknown person claiming to be their “oldest grandson.” When the complainant questioned this, the call was disconnected.

This information was passed on to the Anti-Fraud Section for their follow up.

On Nov. 2, police received a complaint of an attempted fraud at a local business. The complainant advised a male customer attempted to return merchandise that he hadn’t purchased for a cash refund.

When the complainant refused to provide a refund, the male left the store advising he would return with a receipt, however, he never returned. Police are following up on this matter.

On Nov. 3, police received a complaint of two missing youth in Beaver County. Police made some phone calls and were able to locate the youth. They were both fine and there was no need for further police involvement.
