This area has experienced above normal temperatures and as a result the town of Viking has enjoyed a slight reduction in snow removal costs.

Viking’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Jackie Fenton said the budget set in 2015 was $9,500 for salt/sand for roads and, if required, snow removal from outside sources.

She said currently the town budget is showing $6,735 has been used to date.

“I know since this winter has started there hasn’t been a lot of cost in snow removal,” CAO Fenton said.

She said consideration has to be given to the fuel and equipment that the town owns and operates in order to perform snow removal duties all season long.
