Bill 6 is legislation which the Alberta government says will give farm and ranch workers the same protection as other workers in the province and it is the possible passage of the Bill which has family farm owners worried enough to sign a petition and join a protest.

Acts are passed by members of the legislative assembly (MLAs). They are introduced as bills, and debated in the Legislature before being put to a vote.

If the assembly passes a bill, it receives royal assent from the Lieutenant Governor, at which point it becomes law. Bill 6 will be put before the Legislative Assembly this week.

Dr. Richard Starke Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Vermilion-Lloydminster,  says he understands the concerns being expressed by Alberta farmers.

In a telephone interview on Friday afternoon Dr. Starke said he has spoken with many area farmers and he knows they are worried about what the passage of Bill 6 could mean for them, adding that more information is needed to better understand the implications of the Bill…. for more see the Dec. 1/15 Weekly Review
