COUNCIL TAKES TIME BEFORE DECIDING WHISTLE RESOLUTION

  Viking’s town council will take some time to decide if it will pass a resolution forbidding the use of train whistles at the two CN rail crossings at the east and west ends of Viking.

    Stopping the train from blowing its whistle has been an issue which council has struggled with for a number of years.

    Back in October of 2012 it was moved by then Councillor Ken Ruzicka  to determine who owns the two railroad crossings in Viking, and that motion served to advise administration to send out an insert in the next utility billing asking residents for their input into halting the train whistles.

Results of that survey were made public Dec. 17, 2012. A total of 196 ballots were cast, 122 in favour of allowing the trains to blow their whistle and 74 against the CN trains to continue to blow the horn/whistle when passing through Viking’s corporate limits.

Council members concurred at that time that they had to abide by the results of the survey.
