There were no injuries when a train derailment on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 21, sent 17 cars of a 31-car train off the Fabyan trestle bridge into the valley below.

The main line is shut down and according to Warren Chandler Regional Manager Public and Government Affairs with CN, it is too early to say when trains will start running the mainline again.

He said for now trains are being detoured to CN’s Prairie North Line.

The same applies for the Via Rail which runs from Saskatoon to Edmonton. Chandler said Via Rail is making alternate arrangements for its passenger service but, as with the freight trains, it is too early to say when the mainline route will re-open.
