Recreation Tax divided among facilities

The Viking Golf Club, Curling Club and the Carena Complex will be the three beneficiaries of the Recreation Tax collected annually from Viking tax payers.

According to advice received from the town’s legal council, tax dollars raised through the Recreation tax levy must go to the costs of general repair, maintenance and operations of Town of Viking recreational facilities and should not to be used to fund various sports-related projects.

Distribution of the tax dollars was delayed in November when the wording of the bylaw was questioned by Mayor Marlene Grandinetti.

At the Nov. 21 regular council meeting the Mayor said she was not comfortable moving ahead with the distribution of the funds until the original intend of the bylaw was known.
