Three Vye for Mayor of Viking position – 11 stand for council

Viking is going to have a full election this fall.

    For the first time in over a decade, enough candidates have come forward and made their intentions known that they will be seeking a seat at the new four-year term council table.

    The last time there was an election for council was in 2001 when seven candidates stood for the positions.

    As of noon Monday, Sept. 23, Viking has 11 candidates vying for six council seats and three residents seeking the Mayor’s chair.

The candidates seeking a position on council are, in alphabetical order, Incumbent Judy Acres, Incumbent Gabe Brissard, Mac Cumming, Travis Hartl, Rod Hunter, Ellen Lefsrud, Incumbent Peter McArthur, Kate Rabby, Jason Ritchie, Kevin Squair and Laurel Weisgerber.

    Incumbent Mayor Marlene Grandinetti, Cindy Lefsrud and David Zayonce have all filed nomination papers voicing their intention to seek the position of Mayor of Viking.
