Decline in 4-H membership occuring

For many 4-H members this time of year is always exciting as they prepare for the coming achievement days where members show off the skills they have learned over the past year, but for some it is a time of uncertainty.

The number of 4-H Beef club members is on the decline and some contribute the drop in memberships to the declining number of cattle producers in the area.

According to Statistics Canada the number of beef cattle in 2003 in Alberta totalled 1.915 million head.

Ten years later the total number of beef cattle dropped 17 per cent to 1.58 million head.
